Today there was a major debate in Westminster regarding the abortion regulations in Northern Ireland and later this week there will be a vote on it. We, as a church, believe that all human life is sacred, no matter what age, creed, ability, whether born or unborn. Please pray and consider uniting with us as we have been making the following declaration together today.
We declare over Northern Ireland that God is a God of justice and a God of compassion.
We declare that our Lord Jesus is “seated at God’s right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. He put all things in subjection under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” (Ephesians 1:20 – 22).
We come before the throne of heaven to ask for mercy for the people of Northern Ireland as it has taken a path it did not choose. We acknowledge that Scripture is clear about the sanctity of human life from conception. And it is in humility before God’s Word on this matter and in the unity and power of the Holy Spirit that, today, we exercise our authority in Jesus’ Name.
We, the Church of Jesus Christ, his ekklesia, and legislative body on earth, acknowledge that Christ has given His Church the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven; and that “whatever we bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever we loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:19) We acknowledge the truth of God’s mandate in Job 22:28 that “You will decree a thing, and it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways.”
We, therefore, renounce all aspects and implications of the new law on abortion in Northern Ireland that contradict the justice and ways of God, and that undermine the sanctity of human life. We declare section 9 of the above law to be an injustice, unrighteous, as well as undemocratically imposed on the people of Northern Ireland.
As citizens of this land and voters, and at the same time citizens of Heaven, we decree that Section 9 be rendered null and void, cancelled and repealed. We affirm that what we bind, forbid, dissolve on earth will have already been bound, forbidden, dissolved in Heaven.
We proclaim a Northern Ireland that affirms the sanctity of life from the moment of conception to death, and that honours and celebrates the family, in the context of marriage between a man and a woman.
And until we see the outworking on earth of this decree, may your Church in this land rise up in this hour to stand up, to speak out and to act compassionately and practically on behalf of the unborn child and every woman under pressure to abort her baby.
