The Aaronic Blessing reveals more about God’s character than it seems at first.

Songs have a unique ability to put music to the emotions we often struggle to articulate. They can profoundly impact our mood, instantly transporting us back to specific times and memories. One powerful example of this is found in the Old Testament, particularly in Zephaniah 3, where God is depicted as a victorious warrior. This theme resonates in the Aaronic blessing, a song that became a global anthem in 2020 when singers and musicians from around the world connected digitally during a time when physical gatherings were impossible.

Though we may become overly familiar with a song, revisiting it with fresh eyes can reveal deeper meanings. The Aaronic blessing, originally given to Moses and his family in the wilderness, carries layers of significance. The Hebrew word for blessing” not only signifies showing respect but also offering something valuable. This underscores the idea that God is not distant but desires to come down to our level, offering us something precious and protecting His relationship with us. The blessing reminds us that God’s attention is constantly on us, His face shining upon us as an invitation to intimacy. The concept of shalom” or peace in this context represents the highest form of happiness, reminding us of who God is and the profound things He has done for us.

    The Blessing

    Verse

    The Lord bless you
    And keep you
Make his face shine upon you
    And be gracious to you
    The Lord turn his
    Face toward you
    And give you peace

    Chorus

    Amen, Amen, Amen

    Bridge

May his favor be upon you
    And a thousand generations
And your family and your children
And their children and their children

May his presence go before you
And behind you and beside you
All around you and within you
He is with you. He is with you

In the morning. In the evening
In your coming and your going
    In your weeping and rejoicing
He is for you. He is for you
