Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Psalms 37:7 (NIV)

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him

Advent season is one in which God trains us in waiting, Rich Villodas calls it wait training

I’m sure I’m not the only one that doesn’t like to wait. Whether it’s in the airport, the motorway, the shop tills, I am working out which lane I will have to wait in the least amount of time. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but we end up saving very little time but waste so much energy in frustration and complaint.

This might be a silly example but I think we behave the same way in whatever we are waiting for.

I’m beginning to understand what God does in us as we wait is more important than what we are waiting for.

Many stories in the bible point to the pain and trouble experienced by the people of God because of their refusal to wait.

Prayer

Father, thank you for this Advent season. Forgive me for my impatience. Its hard to wait because I often find it hard to believe you are at work in my life in the waiting.
I choose to trust you today. All that you want to do and say in me and through me is worth waiting for.
Amen
